Spots & Spillages
A very common occurrence is the 'black' stain.
This is usually the result of a spillage that has caused a sticky patch on your carpet which readily attracts soil.
This type of soiling can normally be dealt very successfully.
Problem stains are generally the highly coloured variety.
If your carpet has been stain proofed from new, and is no older than two years, the probablility of a successful outcome is quite high, but never guaranteed. If your carpet is made of pure wool or, has a high wool content these types of stains may be much improved using specialist spotting chemicals but are not always completely removed.
Generally wool carpets appear to stay cleaner longer than their 'synthetic cousins' as the natural fibre tends to absorb soil. Wool retains a very high degree of natural moisture rendering it less stain resistant than 'man-made' fibres.
Fibres such as acrylic, nylon, polypropylene are more stain resistant as their moisture retention characteristic is less than wool. Most stains will be successfully removed when having your carpet cleaned professionally.
However synthetic fibres tend to show general soiling much quicker than their natrual 'cousins', so to keep them looking at their best they need to be cleaned more often.
